CABIN DEVOTIONAL - 1Cor. 15:57-581 Corinthians 15:57-58
Our victory doesn’t come from us or our choices or work, but the finished work of Jesus.  That’s good news! Because of this, Paul encourages the Church in Corinth to stand firm in their faith.  Don’t be easily swayed or moved.  The world offers all kinds of things to try and get us off track, but stand firm. “Give yourself fully to the work of the Lord.”    What does this mean?  How can we do this? The world may think that what you’re doing is pointless, or they may discount your work, or not appreciate it.  But we don’t work for praise or encouragement. The resurrection, which Paul talks about just before this, means that our labor is NOT in vain.

Senior Reflection Group
1 Peter 5:6-7 6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that He may lift you up in due time. 7 Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.
·       Sometimes we may think we have let God down, but He is the one Who holds and lifts us up.
·       Remembering this can help us stay humble.
·       God cares about every tiny detail in our lives.  If it matters to you, it matters to Him.
·       Life can make us anxious and nervous and worried, but we are told to give that to God and trust Him with it.
·       What things in your life need to be handed over?

CABIN DEVOTIONAL   - Titus 3:3-8We all have a past.  We have things we aren’t proud of and things we wish we could forget. God knows our past too, and loved us enough to forgive us of our many sins. God saved us because of Jesus’ goodness, not ours.  We aren’t saved because of righteous things we had done, but because of His MERCY. That’s why we glorify Him and not ourselves. “Washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit.”  A second chance, a new you, a new beginning. What does it mean to be “justified by His grace?”  What about “heirs having the hope of eternal life”? What do we do in response to being saved?  V8 says we devote ourselves to doing what is good.  It is excellent and profitable for everyone. Sometimes we think we have to do good deeds to be saved, but Paul tells Titus that we do these good works BECAUSE we’re saved.

Senior Reflection Group
1 Corinthians 3:6-9  6 I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow. 7 So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God, Who makes things grow. 8 The one who plants and the one who waters have one purpose, and they will each be rewarded according to their own labor. 9 For we are co-workers in God’s service; you are God’s field, God’s building.
·       Paul says bringing someone to Christ is a team effort.
·       What seeds have you planted?  What seeds have you watered?
·       Paul also stresses that the important thing to remember is that God is the one Who makes it grow.  God gets the glory.  Not us.
·       In verse 10, Paul also mentions he laid a foundation and someone else is building on it.  Paul did his part and is confident God will finish the good work.
·       Every little bit counts.  Always do your part of the work, even if you’re not the one who gets to finish it.

CABIN DEVOTIONAL—Mark 10:45
Jesus tells His disciples to be different from the world.  V42 “Gentile leaders lord it over them and exercise authority.  NOT SO WITH YOU. We’re called to be different.  They love to show how important they are, we should serve instead.  This conversation happened because James and John wanted to sit on Jesus’ right and left in His glory.  The seats of honor and greatness and importance.  Jesus says, “If you want to be the greatest, be the servant.”
V45, Jesus didn’t come to be served, even though he deserved to be.  Even though He had every right to command it.  He lowered Himself to become a servant of humans.  And He gave His life as a ransom to set us free from the result of our sins.

Senior Reflection Group
Proverbs 27:17  17 As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.
·       This verse shows the importance of sticking together and keeping each other focused and sharp.
·       It is important we have a group of people we can rely on and stay encouraged towards our goal.
·       Work with each other.  Their strength might be your weakness.  Your strength might be their weakness.
·       In what ways can you encourage your brothers and sisters?
·       In what ways do you need encouragement?

CABIN DEVOTIONAL—I Tim. 4:7-8
V7, Our priority is to listen to the Word of God, not the words of man. “Rather, train yourself to be godly.”  Paul didn’t say to argue against godless myths or wives’ tales, but to just be godly. We should train in godliness as if we’re training for the Olympics.  It should be that important to us. Spiritual development and physical development are similar.  Growth only comes from effort and being properly fed.  Godliness should be our priority because it has value in this life AND the next.  Present and eternal.

Senior Reflection Group
Joshua 24:14-15  14 “Now fear the Lord and serve Him with all faithfulness. Throw away the gods your ancestors worshiped beyond the Euphrates River and in Egypt, and serve the Lord. 15 But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”
·       Joshua commanded the Israelites to throw away their idols and to serve the Lord faithfully.  What would that look like if we did this today?
·       Joshua tells them they HAVE to choose between serving other gods and serving the Lord.  They couldn’t do both.  We can’t either.
·       Is there anything in your life that you have made a “god” or “idol” of?  Is there anything that has taken God’s rightful place in your life?
·       These things aren’t necessarily bad in and of themselves, (some may be,) but it’s wrong for anything to be placed BEFORE God.
·       Joshua issued an ultimatum.  “Choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve.”  No more trying to do both.  No more some of this and some of that…it’s all or nothing.
·       “As for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”  Joshua made up his mind that he would serve God whether anyone else chose this or not.  Will you?

CABIN DEVOTIONAL— Mark 8:34-38
The cross wasn’t so glamorized then as it is today.  It was an instrument of death and torture and shame reserved for only the worst criminals.  The people knew what Jesus meant when He said “Pick up your cross and follow me.”V35, You can’t save yourself.  Only Jesus can.  V36, the world offers a lot, but the world always over promises and under fulfills.  Jesus says you can have it all, but is it worth losing your soul for?  (It’s not.) As you go home tomorrow, what will you do to keep yourself encouraged?  What boundaries will you set to keep the world from creeping back in?  What can your Christian brothers and sisters do to help? What changes need to be made in your life?  How can we pray for you to have the strength to face what waits for you at home?

Senior Reflection
1 Peter 5:8-9  8 Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. 9 Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings.
·       This week we’ve learned about God as a craftsman, and being God’s craftsmen.
·       You need to know that our enemy is crafty as well.  He loves to bring us down and will succeed if we aren’t ready for his attacks.
·       Know your weaknesses and build up your defenses.  Resist him.  How can your brothers and sisters help with this?  What can we pray for specifically?
·       At the end of verse 9, Peter lets us know we aren’t the only ones struggling.  You don’t have to go through anything alone.  What can you do now to make sure you reach out when you return to your normal routine and schedule when you need help?
